>Eurovision 2008: The 3rd Hikaruland Post-Show

>Well…he won, and I won’t get into a geopolitical analysis, because that is just opening up Pandora’s box.

Norway had a good song, but did running order help it to 5th?

Onto the post-show fun!

Surprising news: Sweden was saved by the jury vote on Thursday! Macedonia was 10th. Poland got the jury save on Tuesday. Russia came in 3rd on Tuesday, while Portugal came in 2nd on Thursday. There’s some grist for the mill.

    >He yeah that song won, I guess we should have seen it coming.. He did sing and perform it well if not twatty like you say, but somehow the faith theme still sticks in this day and age and they had also a nice order in the queue. Clever by the Russians to temper the wild circus creature from the plains that Dima is with high Russian art such as ballet and the symphonic, somehow it all worked. But watching it again, the song is not half bad and Dima has mesmerizing confident moves in a sportsmanlike way (singing in tune when lying down can’t be easy) to make for a good stage artist even if he’s just a poser uttering the words like you say. In fact having a stage act seems to be A&O these days, I should have thought about that by last years winners. Iceland maybe had a good song with meaning and nerve, but it was plainly and uninterestingly performed even if the vocals were excellent. I don’t think the Euroband name and the pink happy happy thing worked at all (even if I have a secret crush on Regina) and having mysterious Mor come on for Turkey after made the contrast stark. In fact all the top songs had stage gimmickry except Norway who probably scored just because of it’s plainness with the older crowd. (or people who fell in love with Maria..)And watching the show a third time I can see I was prejudiced by all the jealous female reporters who put down Kalomira as being another Britney doll, when in fact the song is maybe the best of all and she was excellent with great moves, presence and singing, really a lovely little pop kitten. More hot than Shady Lady imo, but then Shady had a bunch of hot dudes as well to make more then a few reach for their phones I guess. And yeah Poland was awful, just an empty shell. Armenia got the other sex votes and I can finally see what Qele Qele means and wouldn’t mind doing it with Sirusho frankly. (even if she looked a bit hairy) The song is also catchy and as with Greece has a few of those ethno details that I and many like. Wogan was on top form this year despite his health, finally well prepared with the right names of people etc, this time his love for the competition not so veiled any longer. (and yeah there were accordions in ESC this year too, Wogan’s prophecy fulfilled yet again..;)) The bbc torrent is out, but not easy to get so if you want to see it i can set up a server.Sadly Alto Boka got stuck on nerves for Albania, but the song still got me nevertheless. I beleive what she said and her pose and ‘dress’ worked for me. Call of the wild. And yeah strange the jury voting thing in the semis, what the hell was that all about? Counting the ‘backup’ votes for chrissake?
